- Highway Safety Information Program in coordination with AAA of the Carolinas, evaluating municipalities in North and South Carolina
- Emergency Evacuation Plans for local governments—plans developed and completed over past three years for Davidson and Davidson College, Lake Wylie community, and Charlotte Center City; on-going program with high population density or other “at risk” areas; currently working on evacuation plan for the University City area
- Developing concept and forming a regional consortium called SAFE, with universities in North Carolina, Kentucky, Puerto Rico, Tennessee and Texas—focus on first responder needs for improved homeland security—consortium proposals continuing
- Planned and conducted two workshops on technologies for improved transportation safety and security in 2004 and 2005
- Decision analysis of residents in New Orleans in advance of, and after, Hurricane Katrina
- Co-sponsored and conducted a FHWA workshop on Impacts of Wide Area Disasters on Highway system, December 2004
- Evaluations of other exercises dealing with safety and emergency evacuation – conducted in conjunction with Emergency Management Agency for Mecklenburg County, and other agencies; workshops and exercises will be a continuing program for the Center; completed exercises in June 2004 and January 2005
- State of the Region report – 2003 evaluation of all aspects of transportation – efficiency, economy, environmental impacts, congestion, etc., including safety, for the 15 counties in the greater Charlotte Metropolitan Area
- NC Atlas chapter on Transportation – again, addresses all values and issues affecting transportation systems, including safety – published on-line in September 2005
- North Carolina Freight Forums – series of three forums focused on issues affecting freight movements – including safety – statewide report submitted to NCDOT Rail Division in September 2005 (project began in December 2003)
- NC 73 Corridor Plan – subcontract to private consulting firm; project evaluated improvement alternatives to NC 73 from Stanley County through Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, and Union Counties – project conducted in 2004 and 2005; Center’s responsibility was public involvement component
- North Carolina Transportation Forums – series of three forums in 2001, 2002, and 2003, including safety issues in developing a proposal for a four-university consortium called the North Carolina Transportation Consortium (with NC A&T State University, NSSU, and UNC Chapel Hill)
- Training course for Rural Planning Organizations conducted in 2001 and 2002 included a safety on rural roads component
