Information technology and high-tech communications systems are increasingly becoming important parts of transportation systems. The interdisciplinary researchers of the Transportation Center are working with state-of-the-art advanced telecommunications, Global Information Systems and integrated communications. Some of the projects Center researchers have been working on include:

  • AAA Foundation of the Carolinas Traffic Studies
  • Assisting with Parking and Transportation Policy Studies in developing an effective campus shuttle system
  • Examining the effects of Hurricane Katrina concerning demographics in evacuation and long term placement
  • Analysis of CATS Transit Operations and the South Corridor Light Rail Line
  • Developing as assessment of the traffic impacts of Neo-traditional developments
  • Assessment of traveler information systems at welcome centers and rest areas nationwide
  • Several local community transportation policy studies in Western North Carolina, all involving graduate student research assistants
  • Participation in the National ITS IDEA Committee (Intelligent Transportation Systems -- Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis)
  • Participating in several national committees including the Motorists Information and Services Association, Transportation Research Board, and others
